Ana Cabello Pastor e Inmaculada Gañán Cabezas

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://iesbienglish.blogspot.com/2009/12/20-estudiantes-del-blas-infante.html' title='20 ESTUDIANTES DEL BLAS INFANTE VISITARON EL REINO UNIDO EL PASADO JUNIO 09 DENTRO DEL PROYECTO DE INTERCAMBIO CON LEEDS. Twenty students from Brigshaw and Temple Moor Schools from Leeds in Great Britain visited our city from the 28th of February to the 7th of March.
They arrived in Córdoba on the 28th of February, Saturday just in time to enjoy our carnival in the streets. We could see how some families had prepared disguises for them! Students spent the Sunday with their families and most of them went out in groups to sightsee.
On Monday, the 2nd of March, no school day in our city, we organized a visit to Almodóvar Castle guided by one of our tourism students and a Cordobesian “perol” that we had to eat at school as the rain did not allow us to enjoy the day open air. Our students played football in the school courtyard despite the rain.
On Tuesday, the 3rd of March, we were the whole morning at school. Our head teacher, Ana Moreno welcomed the group and Víctor Anguita, our counselor explained the educative system. The next three periods, the British students attended different classes. At break time they could try a “molinero” breakfast that our parents association prepared for Andalucía’s Day. We spent the two last periods painting tiles with Córdoba shield that our teacher Gregoria fired later so they could take home. Some boys did not show great ability with this craft! They enjoyed the rest of the day with their families and friends.
On Wednesday the 4th, the 20 British participants together with their Spanish partners and the staff visited the Jewish Quarter, the Mosque-Cathedral and the Alcázar of the Christian Kings, everything guided by our tourism students that explained the itinerary in Spanish and English. The students were filling a worksheet along the way to help the understanding. This day the rain did not appear until the end of the visit. They were free in the evening. Teachers enjoyed a flamenco fussion concert in the Gran Teatro by Dorantes.
We spent Thursday the 5th in Seville where we could enjoy the wonderful Alcázares, the Cathedral, the Giralda and España Square. Students sunbathed for a while as we were lucky enough with the weather. Our colleague teacher Ana Cabello was our guide as she is from Seville. She also prepared a great booklet for the visit.
On Friday, the 6th we paid a visit to Medina Azahara Archaeological site. Although the day started clear, the rain soon appeared what ruined the visit guided by our tourism students. I think they will have to come back if they want to appreciate the site beauty. In the evening we had our farewell party where the Spanish families brought their special dishes and our students enjoyed football again.
On Saturday the 7th tears to say goodbye to our new friends who met again in June in Leeds after a few days getting to know the capital of the UK.
We think the great effort of organization of families and staff in the project is worth.
The Coordinator of IES Blas Infante Plurilingual Section in English. Inmaculada Gañán.

(Spanish)

The sketch we have created in French and English about immigration has participated in the Multicultural Section of the contest. The sketch is called La Machine de la Fortune- The Fortune Machine and deals with immigration in the 60s and nowadays: A Spanish immigrant in a Parisian café listens to people imprisoned in a slot machine from different parts of the world talking about today immigration situations. As part of the Content and Language Integrated Learning, this activity has been prepared by the teachers of Spanish, French and English with the help and support of many other teachers, in special with the collaboration of the Art teacher and students in Professional Formation. Our language assistants Cory, Shelby, Elodie and training students have done a very important work helping students with the pronunciation.
We really believe theatre fosters oral practice and creativity. It also helps cross curricular themes in the classroom as interculturality in this year play. It favours team work within the classroom and within the teachers. We have felt we were not alone doing this project.
This is the 5th edition of Estrangis Contest and this has been the 5th time our school has taken part in it. So, we really feel proud of participating in this contest again.

London Party

Last 3rd of April, Thursday we finally held our party to celebrate our trip to London last February.
It began at 7:00 in the evening. They easily understood what we explained in English and were able to answer our questions.
We enjoyed the visit very much!

COMENIUS PROJECTS AT OUR SCHOOL

Our school, IES Blas Infante, has a long tradition of Comenius projects. As far as I can remember, I have taken part in four projects along the last ten years. We are going to coordinate the works of five more countries: Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary, Turkey and England. They even offered us some refreshments.

They are great people! Thank you very much.

We divided the class into eight teams named after a migrating bird. We were: the storks, the herons, the ducks, the swallows, the eagles, the penguins, the flamingos and the pigeons. Each team asked different questions to Córdoba Acoge's staff. Four of our mothers came with us.

We also vivited the Ceramics class at our school. There are some Arab immigrants in that class that are learning the job of potter. These teenagers came to Spain on their own, leaving their families in Africa. You can see a picture of us when we went there.

Now we are finishing our reports on the project.

This is the NGO's web:

http://www.cordoba-acoge.com/

Our school trip to London

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5181071967839842210" style="FLOAT: right; This is Gertraud's class. The picture was taken at the end of last year. They were taking part in the contest "The big challenge" and here they are showing their prizes. It's really good. The students can do lots of exercises on the Internet and usually in May there is the official competition on paper. Students all over Europe do it at the same time. It only cost about 3 Euros to register. The official website is http://www.thebigchallenge.com/

Gertraud and Inma have been working in two previous etwinning projects during the last two years. The two groups of English in the plurilingual section (1º ESO A and B) joined together to hold a party.
The idea started when we had a class with our language assistants Shelby and Cory about Halloween. Once the students knew about this celebration in Anglosaxon countries and in Spain, Shelby suggested to prepare a party on the 31st of October.
Students dressed up in scary costumes, they prepared a lotto card with the vocabulary, cut and coloured Halloween pictures that we hung to decorate, brought an apple and labelled their costumes in English. One student gently carved a pumpkin to make a jack-o-lantern.
Shelby started with the VOCABULARY LOTTO picking up the words from a hollow pumpkin. Words could not be written. They had to make a big efford to understand Shelby's American accent. The first to get a full line got a lollipop or a chocolate coin. The first to get bingo, got two sweets.
Cory followed with THE HANGMAN. Our students showed that they had memorised their Halloween vocabulary very well. They guessed quite quickly. Many got sweets.
Finally, we played bobbing apples.
